Mughal garden is a group of gardens built by the Mughals in the Persian style of architecture. This style was heavily influenced by the Persian gardens particularly the Charbagh structure. Significant use of rectilinear layouts is made within the walled enclosures. Some of the typical features include pools, fountains and canals inside the gardens.

The founder of the Mughal Empire, Babur, described his favourite garden as a Charbagh. Located inside the Rashtrapati Bhawan compound, it is open for the public during February and March only. Mughal Garden in Rashtrapati Bhawan is full of flowers like marigold, sweet william, viscaria, roses and bougainvillea and so on. It is believed that the garden houses more than 25 varieties of rose, 13 types of marigolds and 60 types pf bougainvillea. The Gardens include roses named Mother Teresa, Arjun, Bhim, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Jawahar and Dr BP Pal besides international celebrities with names like John F Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth, Mr Lincoln and Montezuma. It is the most beautiful gardens of India and feature a vast variety of eye catching flowers. At Mughal garden visitors will also be able to visit the Spiritual Garden, Herbal Garden, Bonsai Garden and Bio-diversity Park within the Estate. Roses are central to the fame of Mughal gardens and a permanent feature throughout the year.

Visitors are not allowed to enter the gardens with any of the following items:

  • Radios/Transistors
  • Cell Phones
  • Writing material
  • Umbrellas
  • Arms/Ammunition
  • Eatables

Any items brought to the entrance gate will have to be deposited before entry at the owner’s risk. Photography is strictly prohibited in the premises of the garden.

Opening Time: it is open for the public during February and March only from 10am to 4pm (Monday closed).
