St James Church Delhi

St James Church

Oldest surviving church
St James Church, more popular than Skinner’s church is one of the oldest surviving church in Delhi. The church was commissioned by Colonel James Skinner after 10 years of constructed in 1836. It is a majestic specimen of the Greek Cross and Italian Renaissance dome design.

The church surrounds itself with gorgeous gardens that give the place peaceful air contrary to the noise as it stands at the intersection of Lothian road and Church road in Kashmere Gate. The design of the dome is elite and detailed. The dome rests itself on an octagonal arcade and the congregation sits under the circular space.
The altar has two stained glass windows that have a cross representing the crucifixion and ascension. Even after so many years, St James remains till date a well-known place for visitors.
