Lotus Temple Delhi

Lotus Temple

"A very calm and serene place”

Lotus Temple or Baha'i Temple is a house of worship completed in the year 1986 under the supervision of Persian architect Fariborz Sahba. It is often compared to the Sydney Opera House. Located near Nehru Place market, it has emerged as a top attraction for the tourists in Delhi. The structure is made up of pure white marble.

This temple is built in the shape of a lotus flower and is the last of seven Major Bahai's temples built around the world. The sanctum of "27 blooming petals" stands at 40 meters tall with a capacity of accommodating more than 2000 people. It has nine doors that open in a central hall.

The architecture of the Bahá'í House of Worship reflects the simplicity, freshness and clarity of the Bahá'í Revelation while also conveying respect for all world religions. The structure is made up of pure white marble. The symbol ‘Lotus’ articulates as the symbol common to Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Islam. Adherents of any faith are free to visit the temple and pray or meditate. All of the Bahá'í Houses of Worship have a dome that symbolizes the unity of the diverse religions.

The auditorium of the Temple shows films on the House of Worship as well as on the Bahá’í Faith and is used for performances/concerts for good causes and with a positive social message.

Lotus Temple is notable for its flowerlike shape, it serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent and has become a prominent attraction in the city. Once you visit this beautiful place you enjoy the peace and the serene environment inside the premises.
